A Brief History

This project has been posted before, but shared in a much different way.  If you've played any of the two previous builds, thank you.  If this is the first time you've heard about the game, welcome, I hope you enjoy your time.

When the first version was posted, I had only two chapters done (two dungeons, and one optional dungeon).  The second build added another bonus dungeon, but mostly existed to further the story.  Currently, there are three main dungeons and two bonus dungeons to explore.

As an RPG, the most important things (in my mind) are the plot, setting and characters.  After each chapter, or day, all of the NPCs get new dialogue, sometimes reacting to things going on in the story, sometimes just furthering their own lives.  It was a lot of work, but I feel it makes the world more believable.

Something I'm terrible with is game balance.  Often, I make the game either too easy or too hard.  I'm working on that.  Being too easy is preferable, and when I release a build I want it to be completable without frustration.  Like with many RPGs, as the plot moves along and the party gets stronger, so too must the challenge, and we're still at the beginning here.

Chapter/Day two starts giving you choices, even if you aren't blatantly given them in a dialogue box.  None of them will chance the plot as a whole, but they will enable you to see different things and open conversations with different characters.  For example, listening to Cassius-sensei's advice on day two will introduce you to one character early, while not listening will get you an introduction for another, who can then play a role in the following day.  Chapter/Day four can end in three different ways, though one of them, the most straightforward, just sort of ends the day, and thus, the demo.

This project was done by a single person, and I'm more of a storyteller than anything else.  The art is bland, the sprite work is lazy, the music comes from other sources.  Hopefully I can solve those problems as time goes on and interest in the project rises.  It is also one of the many reasons I'm not taking donations.  This project isn't in a state where it deserves to be paid for, even if it is optional.

Work continues.  Progress is slow, but hopefully seeing some comments will fuel the engine that drives me and I'll start making faster progress.  This build was supposed to be done in June/July, but I kept adding more work for myself, and then making a lot of small adjustments for one reason or another, saying it 'wasn't ready' for people to play.  While I still largely feel that way, if I continue along that train of thought, it will never be released, so I'm posting it now, warts and all.

Hopefully the next update will be sooner rather than later.
